Born and raised in South Africa, Elizabeth Sparg lives in the seaside city of Durban where her home borders a lush nature reserve with a small stream. She is amused and entertained by vervet monkeys who visit her garden almost every day, as well as the occasional run-ins with snakes, mongooses, likkewaans (monitor lizards), dassies (rock hydrax), and an abundance of frog and bird species.

Drawing inspiration from the wildlife and nature of South Africa, and spending plenty of beach days watching dolphins and whales, Elizabeth loves creating animal characters with personality and humor.

Working with acrylic gouache and pencils, in a bold and painterly style, she wants her work to feel free and loose and a little bit wild - to connect with the wild and free hearts of young readers.
