Artist statement:
I want to make books that are funny and make children laugh, even if it is just a small detail in the corner of a page or a funny expression on a character’s face, a humorous moment, a background character. I want kids to be entertained and develop a love for books and reading, to come back to a favourite story again and again. If a book can’t be funny, I want it to be beautiful and for the art to inspire a sense of wonder and transport the reader to a different world. I am drawn to illustrating animal characters with spersonality and lush outdoor environments like jungles, deep oceans, African plains. I want my work to feel free and loose and easy and a little bit wild, to connect with the wild and free hearts of young readers.
